An International Early Childhood & Primary Conference, co-hosted by the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Association of National Plus Schools (ANPS) Indonesia is currently being planned. The conference is to be held in Bali, Indonesia this year. The conference will host delegates from Asia Pacific, and from IB World Schools and non-IB schools. It seems that a variety of studies are now beginning to show that students learn better by handwriting notes than typing. While these studies are small they are worth paying attention to. (Though perhaps it is not the handwriting that is so important per se but the processing that goes into the note taking.)

A mixture of students from Year 10 and Year 11 recently spent a week in Cambodia with the purpose of learning more about this impoverished country and to apply some good old ‘elbow grease’ with some ‘hands on’ Community and Service based activities. This was the first time that Global Jaya has sent students to Cambodia and we did it in partnership with Camps International, a UK based charity group that organizes School Service Trips and Volunteer Gap years to Africa, South American and South East Asia. Global Jaya International School’s MYP Personal Project Exhibition 2014 is on right now in their Theatre building, they have over 100 students with an enormous variety of products using all of the Area of Interactions, including Approaches to Learning. Sekolah Cikal and a few other schools are visiting. All parents, teachers and supporters are welcome. The exhibition will be open until 2pm. Continue reading
The choirs were very polished and sounded lovely. (19 choirs from about 15 different schools). Congratulations to all who attended, they all did a great job. All schools who attended received a lovely certificate to bring back to their school with. A very big thank-you to all who assisted in the organization of the day, the judges, teachers, parents, students and GJIS how hosted the event.

Yesterday at GJIS Theatre about 25 people and the ANPS Choir Competition Committee gathered for a technical meeting in preparation for the annual ANPS Choir Competition 2014 on Tuesday 22nd April. 14 primary school choirs and 6 secondary school choirs have entered. Continue reading
The IBAP Visit to Indonesia is in the middle of our programme already, yesterday was a full day with meetings for Heads of Schools, IB Coordinators, Planning Meetings, Potential IB Educators (Workshop Leaders and School Visitors) and parents.
Today we have the IB staff visiting several different schools within the network plus an upskilling meeting for all current IB Educators in the Indonesian network.
Tomorrow there are a number of Evaluation and Authorisation clinics, a meeting with Universities and schools regarding IB Recognition, PYP Subject Specialists Meeting and a Mind the Gap Meeting for schools that have PYP and DP but do not offer MYP.
